WM2 firefighters responded to a brush fire during the afternoon of April 1 on Baird Ave. with 29-4, 29-14, 29-24, and 29-2. Firefighters Todd Courson, Jim Pratt, Mick Lilly, Corey Lilly, Tom Chalmers, Eric Coston, and Janet Courson extinguished the brush fire with the Kubota, indian cans, 1" forestry line, and rakes.

Dept 29 assisted Dept 16 with a structure fire during the early morning hours of March 28 on Arch St. WM2 firefighters Kris Simmons, Josh Sciallo, and Corey Lilly vented the roof during the knockdown of the blaze.

Dept 29 would like to recognize WM2 Deputy Chief/Edinboro PD Officer Landon Silva's efforts with an Edinboro PD K-9 Unit.

"Our Lady of the Lake Church in Edinboro, assisted and applied for a grant from the Ben Roethlisberger Foundation at the Giving Back Fund. The grant was applied for on behalf of the Edinboro Police Department K-9 Unit.

The grant was approved and funded in February and a check was received for $10,000. The funds are directed for and to be used to assist and develop the K-9 unit in their needs.

A presentation of the check was held by Fr Daniel Hoffman, pastor of Our Lady of the Lake, to Office Landon Silva of the Edinboro Police Department.

The Ben Roethlisberger Foundation was established by NFL Quarterback Ben Roethlisberger and his family. The mission of the Foundation is to support K-9 units of police and fire departments throughout the U.S. with a particular emphasis on support for service dogs in Pittsburgh, PA and to support other charitable organizations.

In 2011, the Foundation granted $46,000 to police and fire departments in the Pittsburgh area and $77,700 around the country for a total of $123,700. Since 2006, the Foundation has made grants totaling over $850,000."

Dept 29 Members Prepare for Upcoming HAZMAT Operations Class with Dept 28 and EMT Refresher Courses hosted by VEMSACC

Dept 29 has partnered with Dept 28 to offer members of both departments the opportunity to take the state required HAZMAT Operations course. The class is sponsored by the CC Scuba Team and is currently open to area departments. Please contact Chief Courson at department29@westmead2.com or Brad Johnson at bdj@zoominternet.net. The class is scheduled for May 4 & 18 from 8-4pm and May 6 & 20 from 6-10pm.

VEMSACC is hosting the EMT Refresher courses at MMC Liberty/Grove facilities during the month of April. They are open to anyone interested. No sign up necessary. Check out VEMSACC's facebook page for additional info.
